Step into the saddle and get ready to ride! Horseback riding programs are available for Brownie Girl Scouts and older. These programs provide an introduction to horsemanship including safe practices and horse care. They also provide girls an opportunity to develop a stronger sense of self, develop healthy relationships with their fellow riders, and learn how to take what they learned and feel confident sharing their experience with others.
Fall and spring horseback riding programs for troops and individuals take place at Camp Winding River, located in Dearborn, MO. A state of the art equestrian center is home to 26 horses, 3 goats and some barn cats! There is plenty of pasture area for the horses to graze on, and a large indoor riding arena.
Girls should wear long pants and closed-toed shoes or boots with a ½ inch smooth heel (limited supply of boots available for use. Bring a water bottle and dress for the weather.
Troops must provide adults within safety ratios, including a first aider.
