Program Name: Nuclear Science Day

Who:  Cadettes 

When: October 24, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m

Where:  Ward Hall, KSU Campus   Free weekend parking is available in the large parking lot off of Dennison Avenue across from Ward Hall and Rathbone Hall. 

What:  Participants will receive background information about nuclear energy and nuclear power.  They will measure the half-life of a radioactive isotope and see demonstrations of several atomic-scale science experiments.  They will explore the advantages and disadvantages of nuclear power as compared to other common sources of electric power.  Finally, the participants will get a tour of the KSU nuclear reactor and will see the reactor core glow as it operates.

Additional Information:  Event participants will receive a very low amount of radiation dose, equal to what everyone gets each day from background radiation.
