    Join us for a once in a life-time opportunity to speak directly to astronauts onboard the International Space Station using a HAM radio! With the help of the Douglas County Amateur Radio Club we are building a radio groundstation at the Lawrence Public Library and will radio up to the space station as it passes over our heads.

    AIA Kansas City and its committee, Women in Design, and Girls Scouts of NE Kansas & NW Missouri partner to team Girl Scouts with  volunteer female Design Professional Mentors from the architect and design industry. Between the kick-off event in September, and the build and tear down on March 4, the teams work towards designing and building structures out of Girl Scout Cookie boxes. It all comes together at Crown Center  where local celebrity judges choose a top construction based on design and structure.

    Join the Museum of the KS National Guard and the Combat Air Museum for an exciting day for Girls in Aviation! Girl Scouts will start their day at the Museum of the KS National Guard where they will meet female civilian and military pilots, participate in STEM activities and go on a tour. They will then head to the Combat Air Museum a half mile away where they will watch small aircraft land, take a tour of musuem, meet the pilots and learn about their aircrafts.

    Rally for Pets is a community-wide supply drive for Spay and Neuter Kansas City – Families Better Together™. Girl scouts collect and deliver donations of dog and cat food, dog and cat treats, kitty litter, leashes, collars, food and water dishes, etc. to the main clinic located in Kansas City, Missouri.

    A small group of KU graduate students will lead Girl Scout Troops on a nature walk around the Girl Scout campground (or other designated nature areas) to discover the biodiversity of Kansas (or Missouri). Girl Scouts will learn how to use field guides to identify what they observe in the wild. They will also learn how naturalists capture and preserve specimens such as plants, animals, insects, and fossils. Using what they have learned, Girl Scouts will then work as a group to create their own specimen collection that is representative of the local habitat.     Brownies can enjoy this activity as part of their Wonders of Water Journey but the event is available for Troops from all levels. KU graduate students in the marine sciences will give short presentations on their biology research and will then open up the floor for questions from Girl Scouts about their research as well as general marine biology career information. Presenters will bring specimens from their research for students to look at after the talks are over, so that the Girl Scouts can get a first-hand look at what marine biologists work on. Exact research topics may vary per date but may include jellyfish and their relatives and the parasites of sharks and rays!     KU students will introduce the concept of the genetic material (DNA) and how it is compacted inside the cell. We will also discuss how mutations in genes on the DNA affect the function of those genes.     ​After the Harvest volunteers help glean (harvest) excess fruits and vegetables that would otherwise go to waste from local farms and orchards and deliver the fresh, nutritious produce to food banks—like Harvesters—and food pantries to feed hungry families.
