Check back in January 2009 for information about Camp Prairie Schooner's programs.
THE FACILITY
Camp Prairie Schooner is located on the bluffs of the Little Blue River in east Kansas City, Missouri. The camp is about 15 miles from downtown Kansas City, yet the wooded setting makes it seem miles away from home.
The 176-acre camp has hundreds of trees and wild flowers, a swimming pool, a dining hall and hiking trails that wind throughout the camp. A 40' rappel tower and a zipline through the trees provide opportunities for girls to challenge themselves to new heights!
There are five camping units. Each unit has nine permanents built close together. A permatent has a wooden floor and roof and canvas sides. Four to five campers sleep on cots with mattresses in each permatent. Counselors stay in permatents located in the middle of the units. Each unit is equipped with an outdoor shower facility, sink, and latrines.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Camp Prairie Schooner is the perfect place for first-time campers! At Camp Prairie Schooner you can experience a taste of living in a camp unit with other girls your age! Make new friends, meet cool, caring counselors, and have experiences such as eating in the dining hall and sleeping in a permatent. Camp provides you with the right place to learn about yourself and the world around you. Girls in all different programs can participate in favorite camp activities like swimming, hiking, singing camp songs, arts and crafts, cookouts and telling stories around the campfire. Challenge activities like rappelling (grades 3-5) and ziplining (grades 1-5) may be available based on staff/volunteer availability. |
