Council science programs help rekindle the natural joy of asking questions. They provide the opportunity for girls to become comfortable and competent with technology. Are We There Yet?
Come learn the basics of navigation using a compass, then explore the area around camp with GPS receivers. You will team for a high-tech hide and seek, then at the end you’ll come inside to map your geocaches on the computer using specialized software that you’ll get to take home with you at the end of the day!

Crack the Case!
Explore the exciting world of forensic science and crime scene investigation. Become an Ace detective and help solve the mystery! Look at fingerprints, footprints, trace fibers and other mysterious clues. Examine the evidence and see if you can crack the case!

Robo-Girlz
Explore the world of robots! Spend the afternoon building and programming a robot to complete a task. Once you’ve mastered this, come up with your own “mission” for the robot to complete, then challenge your friends to a robot rumble!

Explore the high-tech world of digital photography from start to finish including how to take pictures with a digital camera, how to edit photos using Photoshop, and how to print the final images!

Aerospace
On-line games and activities involve girls in space exploration. Take a virtual tour of the Kennedy or Johnson Space Center, observe an actual launch and learn about current shuttle missions. Investigate careers in the space program and learn about the many women who have participated in space exploration. Construct paper airplanes and have an “air show”. Complete the “Aerospace” Badge.

Focus on Birds
Use binoculars and learn bird observation skills. Take a bird hike. Use Birding software to find out how to recognize birds and their songs, what kind of habitat they need, and their nesting requirements. Use the internet to follow bird migration. Weather Watchers
Weather affects each of us every day. Do we need an umbrella, a heavy coat or sunscreen? How much rain or snow will we get? It shapes our planet, makes crops grow and kites fly. In this program, you will learn how weather is created and how the engine of our solar system, the sun, affects Earth and our daily life. Learn how hail is formed, what air pressure is, the different types of clouds and what to do during a severe storm. By the end of the program, you’ll know how to read satellite images and better understand the changes during the seasons.

Meet the inhabitants of Tongawood. Learn to recognize their tracks, skulls and bones. Examine an owl pellet. Plugged In! on Laptop Computers

Troop Leaders can take Laptop Training and learn to use laptop computers to deliver one of our exciting Plugged In! Programs. After completing this training you will know everything you need to check out our laptop computers and get your troop, group, or Service Unit Plugged In! Explore the planets, moon and constellations with the computer. Predict moon phases and star positions for your next camp out or birthday. Learn to recognize key constellations and planets.

Creat a troop newsletter or flyer. Learn how to design with Microsoft Publisher software! This program is particularly suitable for use by Cadettes and Seniors working on the Desktop Publisher IPP.

Girls are Bridging the Gap!

Not sure what events to plan for your next troop meeting? Check out a Bridging the Gap (BTG) activity tub! This program promotes the idea that every woman and girl can enjoy and excel in science, math, engineering, and technology.

BTG Tubs are especially designed for troops to easily explore the world of science while earning Girl Scout recognition such as a badge or Try-It. Tubs can be requested and checked out from your Service Unit’s BTG Coordinator. Click here to see the date for the next Tub exchange!

Aerospace

This tub will give your troop the materials and instruction to fulfill several requirements for the “Eco-Action” Interest Project Patch.

Create a budget using a price list, maps, or computer software. Learn how to read a map, use graphs to illustrate an issue you feel is important and make future projections.

Build a Better Future
Learn about CAD (Computer Aided Design) programs and use it to make a design of your own, find out about five devices used to assist people with disabilities, and design your own amusement park ride!

Space Exploration
Find out more about today’s telescopes, design a human space colony, construct a ‘flying object’, learn about quasars, pulsars, novas and black holes.

Day Camp Science Aide

Looking for something new and fun at day camp this year? Then don’t miss out on this exciting new program opportunity! Gain access to fun, hands-on activities in science, math, engineering and technology for girls of all ages. Program activities are easy and ready to use at any day camp! Science At Day Camp kits will be available for checkout to all day camps who participate in this training. Adult day camp volunteers are invited to sign up for one of the three session opportunities listed below. Teen day camp volunteers who have completed the 6th grade are also welcome!
