Host Families Needed
for Girl Scouts working at the Juliette Low Camp
All they need
is you….
Celebrating over 50 years of bringing the Juliette Low Camp to hundreds of girls with disabilities between the ages of 15 and 18 through the Girl Scouts of NE KS & NW MO.
We couldn’t do it without the help from Girl Scouts from all over the United States who choose to come here and provide the care these campers need. These girls, who are about to experience two weeks at camp helping Girl Scouts with disabilities, can share your home with you. All they need is a bed to sleep on and a ride to and from the Council office during training.
We'll provide breakfast during training. All they need is a home-away-from-home . . . with you. All they need is a place to crash for a couple of days between camp sessions, (they’ll be so tired, all they will want to do is crash!), some of your good home cooking and, if you like, a bit of showing off Kansas City. Some facts:
The camp gives the physically challenged campers a chance for a resident camp experience and it also provides a destinations opportunity for thirty-six 15-18 year old Girl Scouts that come from across the United States as camp counselors. These girls stay with Girl Scout families throughout the Kansas City area. Won’t you please open your home and allow two girls to stay at your home for approximately 9 -10 nights during the month of July? Many lasting friendships have been made over the past years between the host family and the girls. Some things the host family does are:
- Pick up the girls at the airport when they arrive
- Make sure they attend training at the Council office and camp
- Pick up the girls from camp at the break and return them
- Show them Mid-Western hospitality
- Return the girls to the airport at the end of their stay.
If you can be a host family or know someone who might be able to help, please contact Linda Ray-McKenna 816-224-8698 or Cheryl Schuessler at 816-229-7108. We will be glad to give you more information.
