Age Appropriate Learning and Fun

There are four separate program age levels in Girl Scouts:

Daisy Girl Scouts (Grades K-1, Ages 5-6)
Brownie Girl Scouts (Grades 1-3, Ages 6-8)
Junior Girl Scouts (Grades 3-6, Ages 8-11)
Pre-Teen and Teen Girl Scouts (Grades 6-12, Ages 11-17)

Daisy Girl Scouts
Girls at this age:
  • Get to know how to play with others and learn to share
  • Learn decision-making by choosing between several things to do
  • Have fun with friends

Daisy Recognitions include:
  • A word of praise, a pat on the back
  • Beginning and ending certificates
  • Participation patches or Daisy petals
  • Bridging to Brownie Girl Scouts
Brownie Girl Scouts
Girls at this age:
  • Make decisions as a group in the Brownie Ring
  • Take part in product sales
  • Enjoy a variety of Brownie Try-it activities
  • Plan field trips and attend day camp

Brownie Recognitions include:

  • Participation or Brownie Try-It patches
  • Contemporary Issue patches
  • Religious recognitions
  • Brownie Wings
  • Bridging to Junior Girl Scout
Junior Girl Scouts

Girls at this age:

  • Earn badges, and council patches
  • Visit theaters, museums and businesses; ride horses and repelled
  • Take part in service projects for the community
  • Make a majority of troop decisions, create plans and annual budgets
  • Plan overnights and go to summer camp

Junior Girl Scout Recognitions include:

  • Proficiency badges
  • Contemporary Issue patches
  • Religious recognitions
  • Bridging to teen Girl Scouting
  • Bronze Award service projects

Teen Girl Scouts, or STUDIO 2B
Pre-Teen and Teen Girl Scouting offers:
  • Increasing levels of decision making within the adult/girl partnership
  • Optional ways to participate (with or without a troop, or in special interest groups)
  • National and international travel opportunities
  • Leadership experiences
  • 18-29 year old advisors that help out with special subjects or areas of interest

Pre-Teen and Teen Recognitions include:

  • Interest Project patches, and/or STUDIO 2B charms
  • Religious recognitions
  • Leadership Awards
  • Challenge Awards
  • Silver and Gold Awards
  • College scholarships
