Girl Scouts of NE Kansas & NW Missouri

2007

  • August 1, 2007 Girl Scouts of NE Kansas & NW Missouri is official serving 48,000 girls and 12,000 adult volunteers in 47 counties.
  • Kaw Valley Council, Mid-Continent Council and Midland Empire Council merge.
  • The St. Joseph, Missouri Resource Center completes renovation.
  • Camp Woodland in Gentry County, Missouri opens a new health and office building.
  • Summer 2007, construction began on new indoor horse riding arena at Winding River Camp in Buchanan County, Missouri.

2004

  • Camp Daisy Hindman in Shawnee County, Kansas was expanded to 170 acres.

2003

  • Camp Woodland in Gentry County, Missouri enhanced the girl’s program experience with the addition of a Program Center.

2001

  • The Patricia H. Chandler Troop House was completed at Camp Daisy Hindman in Shawnee County, Kansas giving girls year-round access to the resident camp.
  • The challenge course at Camp Woodland in Gentry County, Missouri was completed.

2000

  • The Security Benefit Amphitheater was completed at Camp ToKaVaCa in Shawnee County, Kansas.

1999

  • Kansas City hosted the 49th annual convention of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A.
  • Kansas City area Girl Scouts were featured on Girl Scout Cookie boxes. A total of 85 girls participated and were photographed on location at a number of Kansas City sites.
  • Indoor and outdoor riding arenas were constructed at Camp Daisy Hindman in Shawnee County, Kansas allowing for year-round horse programs.

1994

  • Santa Fe Trail and Mid-Continent Council merge.

1991

  • Renovations took place at all four camp sites and the headquarters in Mid-Continent Council.

1989

  • Camp Woodland in Gentry County, Missouri installs a junior size swimming pool.

1984

  • The Midland Empire Council Service Center was constructed.

1982

  • A new dining hall and kitchen opens at Camp Daisy Hindman in Shawnee County, Kansas.

1980

  • Winding River Council merged with Mid-Continent Council.

1978

  • The Kansas City Headquarters was constructed on four acres of land on the eastern edge of Kansas City, Missouri.
  • A new horse barn was built at Camp Daisy Hindman in Shawnee County, Kansas.

1967

  • Marshall County, Kansas and Neighborhood 17 of the Jayhusker Council (Marysville, Waterville and Blue Rapids) become a part of Kaw Valley Council.
  • The Mid-Continent Council was formed after the merger of the Pioneer Trails Council and the Kansas City Council.

1965

  • Property in Buchanan County, Missouri was purchased by Winding River Council and became Winding River Camp.
  • Atchison County, Kansas merges with Midland Empire Council.

1962

  • Maryville, Missouri joins the Midland Empire Council.

1952

  • The St. Joseph Girl Scout Association was incorporated as the Midland Empire Girl Scout Council.

1959

  • Grundy, Mercer and Livingston counties in Missouri join the St. Joseph Council.
    1957
  • Camp Timberlake, located in Johnson County, Missouri was purchased by the Kansas City Council.

1956

  • The Vallehi Council (Douglas, Atchison and Brown Counties in Kansas) joined Kaw Valley Council.

1954

  • Kaw Valley Council was formed after the merger of the Topeka Girl Scouts with six additional counties.

1952

  • Topeka Kansas was granted the first two-year charter ever given by the national organization, GSUSA.

1948

  • Camp Woodland near Albany, Missouri was purchased.

1947

  • Pioneer Trails Council was chartered to serve all of Jackson County, Missouri outside of the corporate limits of Kansas City, Missouri.
  • Independence Girl Scout Council becomes Pioneer Trails Council.

1945

  • Kansas City Council purchased Camp Oakledge on the Lake of the Ozarks and Independence Council purchased Prairie Schooner located in the city limits of Kansas City, Missouri.

1943

  • Camp Daisy Hindman in Shawnee County, Kansas expanded to 100 acres.

1940

  • The Independence Girl Scout Council was formed in Missouri.

1937

  • Topeka, Kansas Council organized troops of high school aged girls (ages 14-18) as an experiment — this was the start of Senior Girl Scouting.

1933

  • The Manhattan Council for Girl Scouts in Kansas was granted a charter by the national organization, Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA).

1931

  • The St. Joseph Girl Scout Association was formed.
  • The Girl Scout camp in Dover, Kansas was officially named Camp Daisy Hindman.

1930

  • The first Girl Scout troop in Manhattan Kansas was organized.
  • The Lawrence Girl Scouts Council in Kansas was organized and given a charter.

1927

  • The Nightingale Troop started in St. Joseph Missouri.

1923

  • Girl Scouting began in greater Kansas City.
  • Organization of the Topeka, Kansas Girl Scouts was completed.
