Safety-Wise Tip:
Issues like liability insurance and certified instructors are a concern when planning for girls. Consult your Membership Manager or a council staff member whenever you have a concern about following Safety-Wise guidelines.

Program Tip:
When planning for the upcoming year, make sure the girls have an opportunity to take on leadership roles and to accept responsibility for their actions. This is important for youth development – giving girls the sense that her efforts make a difference.

Senior Programming Board

The Senior Programming Board is an opportunity for Girl Scouts to become involved on the council level. The purpose of the board is to allow girls to interact with other Girl Scouts while exchanging ideas. This board is for girls ages, 14-17 (grades 9-12). To offer this opportunity to all Senior Girl Scouts - there will be three senior programming boards.

The Senior Programming Board members are responsible for:

  • Planning and advertising council-wide programs for Senior Girl Scouts.
  • Creating a visible presence and voice for Senior Girl Scouts.
  • Attending monthly meetings (usually held the second Sunday from 2-4 p.m.).
  • The first meeting will be held Sunday, September 9, 2007.

    Deadline has been extended!

Applications for the 2007-2008 membership year are due August 31, 2007.

For more information download this Teen Board application or contact gaddept@girlscoutsksmo.org.

Scholarships

Graduating high school senior Girl Scouts are invited to apply for the following college scholarship:

Applications are mailed in early November to all 12th grade Girl Scouts, or to download an application, please click here. The application and references are due February 1, each year. Interviews will be held in February and recipients will be recognized at the annual Honors Ceremony in March.

The Beth Winters Memorial Scholarship
Beth Winters, daughter of Joyce and George Termini and the late Charles Winters, exemplified the highest ideals of Girl Scouting as reflected in the Girl Scout Promise and Law. On August 26, 1995, Beth suffered an untimely death in a car accident at the age of 26.

As a young woman, Beth moved through life with grace, tenacity and a soaring spirit. The Beth Winters Scholarship Fund, endowed by Beth’s family and friends, captures that spirit by annually recognizing a Senior Girl Scout of high ideals. Since March 1996, fifteen such women have been so honored.

Community - Beth began Girl Scouting at an early age (shown above left as a Junior at Crestview School, Troop 669), where she flourished as part of a Girl Scout community through her high school years. Throughout her young life, she helped make the world a better place.

Leadership – Girl Scouting helped Beth develop leadership qualities. Beth represented the state of Missouri at the Girl Scout National Leadership Conference in Washington D.C. in 1985.

Academic Achievement –
Beth graduated in 1987 from North Kansas City High School and then went to Mizzou, where she graduated in 1991 with a degree in journalism and music.

Extracurricular Activities – Beth was full of life. She loved music, community service, travel and physical fitness (seen here running in "Grandma's marathon" in Duluth, Minnesota!).

Based on the above cornerstones of Beth’s life, criteria for the Beth Winters Scholarship Fund are as follows:

Eligible candidates for the Beth Winters Memorial Scholarship are those:

a) who are registered Girl Scouts in NE Kansas & NW Missouri Council at the time of application and who have been registered Girl Scouts for the two (2) years prior to the year of application;

b) who are graduating high school seniors;

c) who have earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, OR have a cumulative 3.75 grade point average and earned the Girl Scout Silver Award;

d) who intend to attend college or vocational training;

e) who have demonstrated involvement in the Girl Scout program on a troop, service team, district, council or national level; and

f) who have exhibited remarkable balance in leadership and participation among diverse interests, such as activities found in a school, religious or community setting.

To apply for the both the Beth Winters Memorial Scholarship, candidates must:

a) complete an application form (click here to download);

b) write an essay, “How Girl Scouting Has Helped Me Form the Vision for My Life”;

c) submit three (3) references from persons able to verify Girl Scout involvement and achievements;

d) participate in an interview at the assigned time and location

e) meet all deadlines.

Girl Scout Destinations

Rafting in Maine. Dog sledding in Michigan. A Big Apple adventure. You can sharpen your business skills, watch bison play in the Tetons or explore what it might be like working with girls with disabilities. Girl Scout destinations are waiting for you.

Destinations are events sponsored by Girl Scout councils, Girl Guide associations and GSUSA (the national Girl Scout organization) to give Teen Girl Scouts a chance to be part of the greater Girl Scout community. The events are planned around the interests and needs of young women today. They vary in size, theme, locations and cost.

There are still many travel opportunities available for girls ages 11 – 18!
Click for more information about GSUSA’s Destinations program. For a list of the Destinations travel opportunities, dates, locations, and to download an application go to the Studio 2B website. Please send applications to Carol Solenberger at the KC Headquarters Office (8383 Blue Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64133) by the November 15, 2009 deadline.
