Check back in January 2009 for information about Camp Oakledge's summer programs.
THE FACILITY
Camp Oakledge is located on the Lake of the Ozarks, about 130 miles southeast of Kansas City. The 410-acre camp has a swimming pool, sports court and hiking trails, and the lake is used for canoeing, kayaking, and sailing. Four to five campers sleep in each permatent, which has a wooden floor and roof, canvas sides and cots with mattresses. Counselors stay in centrally located permatents near the campers.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Camp Oakledge is full of adventures! Whether you are a first time camper or have lots of experience, Camp Oakledge is the perfect place to try new things, build strong, lasting friendships and learn about yourself and the world around you. While at camp, you'll live in a camp unit with other girls your age and work together (guided by totally cool, caring counselors) to make decisions about how to spend your time at camp. Find your way to Lookout Point or Natural Bridge; try your hand at canoeing, sailing or kayaking; and participate in other great camp activities like arts and crafts, swimming, fishing, hiking, sports, singing, campfires and more.
SWIMMING SKILLS EVALUATION
All campers will be evaluated for swimming ability upon arrival at camp. The evaluation includes: jumping into water over your head, coming back to the surface and staying above water for one minute by swimming, floating, or treading water. A lifejacket (PFD) will be thrown to each camper who will put it on in the water and swim 25 yards (one length of the pool). Campers who register for canoeing, kayaking, or sailing programs must successfully complete this evaluation, or they may be placed in a different program group at the camp director's discretion. |
